More than 20 years ago, Workshop West Theatre was established with a clear mandate.
It was started to show Canadian plays from both established playwrights, and emerging talents. It has done that much, and more. Current playwrights like Brad Fraser, Frank Moher, Conni Massing and Marty Chan all had their works developed through Workshop West. The company continues that tradition under new artistic director Michael Clark. The first show Jenkins produced after becoming artistic director was the 2000 edition of the popular Springboards new play showcase.
One of the plays that got a workshop review in Springboards 2000, Respectable, by Ron Chambers, was given a full-length performance as part of Workshop West’s 2000-2001 season. The tradition continues.
